Last week I stayed at the Kimpton Firesky Resort in Scottsdale, AZ while on a business trip. While I’ve eaten in the restaurants associated with the Kimpton hotels here in Portland and attended dog-focused events at the hotels, I’ve never stayed at a Kimpton hotel before.

All of the Kimpton hotels are pet friendly, and they don’t charge anything extra for your pet to stay in your room with you. Everyone working at the hotel was extremely friendly. I’d definitely return if I find myself in the area again.
While in Scottsdale, AZ last week, I took a vacation day and went to the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort and Spa. The grounds were beautiful.

The cactus were huge.

Notice that there are no pictures so far of Flat Kendall. That’s because I wasn’t staying at the resort, and I wanted to look inconspicuous.
I drove up to where the spa area is at the resort and found an area they’ve set up as an old wild west town for barbecues. There was no one around, so Flat Kendall came out for some pictures.

Notice the huge houses built into the side of the mountain. There were some big houses!
Many of the cacti were in bloom
This week I traveled to Scottsdale, AZ for business. Even though I stayed at a pet friendly Kimpton hotel, I wasn’t able to bring Kendall along, so Flat Kendall made the trip. We visited old town Scottsdale and the arts district. I was there fairly early in the morning, so there weren’t many people around.
There was a walking trail along the canal where I found this statue.
The town seems to be very dog friendly, although I didn’t see many dogs.
This fountain is right in the middle of old town. As I walked around I saw lots of shops, restaurants, and art galleries. I didn’t have a chance to go back when everything was open, but I did have a wonderful dinner at Cowboy Ciao. Their chopped salad is like a party in your mouth.
The weather was just about perfect. Highs were in the mid-70s with nary a cloud in the sky.
