Contrary to popular belief, we have not fallen off the face of the Earth. Work has been busy. We have awesome stuff to tell you in the future, but until the press release goes out, the word is mum.
Last week we attended the Oregon Humane Society’s volunteer appreciation dinner. We were overwhelmed by the more than 600 volunteers in attendance. Overall, there are more than 1200 volunteers at the Humane Society! Can you believe it!?! That’s 1200 people making sure that animals are well-cared for, have a walk when they’re at the shelter, receive veterinary care, and have someone looking out for them. We’re part of the AAI (animal assisted interactions) part of OHS. We pretty much function as an island in the sea of volunteers as we head out and do our visiting at the assisted living center and the local library. It was so nice to be included with all of the other volunteers at the dinner.
The dinner and ceremony were held at the Governor Hotel in Portland. This is one of the fancier hotels in town, and Kendall was invited to attend! She went for her fluff and buff the day before to make sure she was ready for the fancy schmanzy hotel.
With that many people moving around, we had to make sure we kept her tucked under the table. She only got stepped on once. There was only one other AAI dog there that we met. Harley looked like he was a sweetie, and maybe even part Cavalier.
Kendall was on her best behavior and was loving all of the attention she was getting from all of the dog people in the crowd. The hotel doesn’t usually allow pets, especially at dinners, so we were honored to attend.
We received our pin for over 100 hours of service last year. It’s amazing how quickly those hours add up.
